My Approach

I support people that help and care for others in learning how to care for themselves. Each person is unique and different, and so are their needs. As a therapist, I hold space for every part of you. There is no one size fits all approach to healing, self-discovery, and growth.

Using a combination of different therapeutic ideas and techniques, I will partner with you and support you in bringing healing to all parts of yourself by exploring your mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional experiences. Together we will get to the root causes of your concerns by slowing down and engaging your innate wisdom.

FAQs for Online Therapy for Burnout in California

Fees + Payment

  • My fee for a typical 45-50 minute counseling session is $200. The first session is 75-minutes and the rate is $225. Extended sessions are available for private pay clients (please ask about current rates). Payment is due before each session begins. 

  • No. If you are interested in resources for low-cost therapy or resources to help with the cost of therapy please see my resource page.

  • Short Answer:  Yes-with a disclaimer. I currently accept Aetna, and possibly Optum in the future. For all other insurances I can provide a superbill that can be used for reimbursement.

    Long Answer: I currently accept some insurance to make mental health support more accessible to a wider range of people. While I prefer not to work directly with insurance companies due to the limitations they can place on care, I am committed to helping more individuals get the support they need. Accepting insurance is a way to navigate the current shortage of mental health professionals and ensure quality care for as many people as possible.

Online Counseling FAQs

  • We will meet using a private, HIPAA-compliant video platform. All you will need is a laptop, phone, or another device capable of video conferencing. It is preferable that whatever device is used can be made stationary and is capable of being used hands-free. When we use Brainspotting and other therapeutic exercises, you will need to be seated upright with your hands-free and your feet placed comfortably on the floor.

    Most people connect with me from their homes, but other locations also work, as long as you're in a private space where you won't be interrupted or overheard.

  • For therapy to be the most effective, meeting weekly is recommended. This way we can build the understanding and trust that make up a good working relationship. Meeting weekly also gives you time to apply what you discover in our sessions. As you progress, you may not need to meet as often. At that point, sessions can occur bi-weekly, and eventually once per month.

    Sometimes, people opt to come twice a week and find more frequent meetings to be a much more powerful tool. We can discuss if more intensive work could be beneficial to you.

  • Gathering information, discussing logistics, and creating a plan take up more time than would be feasible in a regular 45-50 minute session. With the extra time, we’ll make sure that you feel heard, know what to expect from counseling, and get clearer about the next steps.

  • No. All therapy sessions are conducted online via a secure video platform.

  • All the work that I do is online. This means that you can live anywhere in California and we can work together. Due to the high demand for services, your scheduling needs and my availability will be discussed during our initial consultation.

  • It depends on where and for how long you will be traveling. Reach out so we can figure out whether online counseling with me is the best for you. If not, we can discuss alternative options!

  • Counseling is goal driven. During our first session, we will establish meaningful goals and regularly assess your progress. Once you achieve your goals, you may be ready to move on, or we might choose to decrease sessions until it feels right to end therapy. While we won’t end therapy before you’re ready, we also won’t create a dependent relationship where you never feel ready or able to end counseling.

  • If you feel that your primary issue is drinking or substance misuse/abuse, then I would not be able to help. I recommend contacting a specialist who has specific training in substance abuse counseling.

  • No, I do not provide crisis intervention or support. If you are experiencing a crisis or mental health emergency please call 911 or present yourself at the nearest emergency room. There are also some crisis support resources listed on my resource page.

  • Therapy is a process that takes time and commitment to work. We can't cram self-reflection, learning new skills, and processing difficult feelings into one meeting, or even one month (even though that could be more cost-efficient).

    I recommend dedicating a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks of weekly therapy and applying what you learn during sessions to your everyday life then assessing how you're progressing.

  • We will begin therapy with the end in mind. The goals that we establish during our first session will be used to guide the counseling process as well as let us know when to consider tapering off sessions or bring therapy to an end. When you have accomplished your goals, we can discuss how to end our work together in a way that will help you hold onto the progress you have made. And, of course, as new situations arise, you are always welcome to come back.

    Again, we will not end therapy before you’re ready, but, we also won’t create a dependent relationship where you never feel ready or able to end therapy.
